Larry celebrated his birthday at our home on Castle Drive, with Lanny and I, Richelle, Philip, Alexander, William, and some friends, Oliver, Maribel and their two boys, Oliver and Brian, and Jim and Mary Piles.
The Goodrich’s and Starr's enjoyed breakfast while watching Sunday morning conference. We listened to some good counsel and stories. Bro. Hawk bore his testimony of the Book of Mormon and Pres. Monson related some past experiences when he responded to the promptings of the Spirit. By doing so he was put in a position to help a child; he and his wife were in a position needing help and a Boy Scout was there to help and in turn received some counsel and encouragement from the prophet. Genealogy and other topics were talked about, and some beautiful hymns and songs were sung.
And then...
I don't know just how much Larry knew about his surprise birthday party Richelle had arranged, but after morning conference she drove home and brought back a "Happy 51st Birthday banner, a birthday
cone, foods and a birthday cake masquerading as a pumpkin Richelle had made which was fitting for this time of the year.
Larry spent the afternoon sifting rocks and debris from pinto beans, red beans and another kind of bean while talking to Grandpa and Angie.
Richelle cut up vegetables, onion, cucumbers, tomatoes and mixed them with an oil dressing for a salad. She had made some homemade salsa and specially prepared meats, red and green peppers and onions for barbecuing to stuff in either corn or flour fajitas.

It wasn't too long before the Piles arrived and soon after we were all sitting down for Larry's birthday dinner. Oliver and Maribel and their family arrived shortly after and joined in the festivities.
And then comes the time that all kids look forward to: "The cake and ice-cream." And this cake was cracking a great big smile. It was a triple-decker cake accompanied by three flavors of ice-cream. On top of the pumpkin cake was a bag of "trick or treat" candies which all the kids were eyeballing.
No hocuspocus, just a wish to Larry for a Happy Birthday week. We sang, Larry blew out the two candles and treats were devoured. To end the evening Larry opened his presents and shared the last present, which was a box of goumet chocolates.
Happy Birthday Larry, the man with thunderous power and striking performance.
Love, Mom Starr

Larry is a good husband and a good stepfather to Richelle’s children. We consider him a good addition to our family. He is a lot like me in the fact that he doesn’t put on airs, “What you see is what you get”. He is a hard worker, sometimes too hard for his own good, but he has the respect of those who know him. I just wish he could stop and smell the roses once in a while and get his priorities straight so we could go fishing more than once each year!!!
