Hurley James Jensen has a birthday today, November 12, 2013

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HURLEY
We have written a poem just for you, so we hope that you will like it too.  Have your mother read it to you okay.  This is from your Great Grandpa and Grandma Starr, and it is called, "The Birthday Ball."  So here goes...
THE BIRTHDAY BALL

There once was a boy named Hurley James,
who loved to throw balls and to play games.
He picked a ball up with the pinch of his fingers,
and threw it around and missed all the winders.

He wound up his arm, sent the ball flying
straight,
through the air it whizzed by and over the plate.

The batter jumped back and watched it go by,
He watched it go by and just wanted to cry.

It rolled and it tumbled and rumbled til it stopped,
stopped still at the foot of Mr. Bigfoot McClopd.

"What is this?" he yelled, as he stared down below.
"What is this?"he muttered and saw that it glowed.
It shimmered an orange and then a bright red.
He looked at it closely and began to dread.
The red ball hissed and made such a big racket,
Mr. McClopd was fearful and clung to his jacket.
He looked down and thought, "What can this be?"
It hissed and it slurped and it burped green tea.

It twirled and sped with a speed that was fast,
was fast as a speed boat but it did not last.

It sputtered and fluttered and then became slow,
followed by Mr. McClopd and the kids in a row.
Soon it was seen bouncing and leaving the ground,
picking up speed and in a flash was sky bound.

Bound for somewhere, someplace they didn't know,
They waved goodbye and pleaded, "Please don't go."

And so Hurley James and the others walked away,
sadden that their ball was gone and not able to play.

As they entered the backyard there sat Mr. McClopd.
They walked up to him and suddenly stopped.
Mr. McClopd sat there grinning, a big toothless grin,
a grin that grew bigger til it covered his broad chin.
"What is it Mc McClopd, what is it you grin at?"
"We've lost our best ball the one we could all bat!"

"Don't be disheartened," said Mr. McClopd, "Don't be sad,
I have something I know that will make you all glad."

"What is it Mr. McClopd, what can it be? Please tell."
And he opened his hand and down the ball fell.
Down, down fell the ball with a soft gentle kerplop.
Hurrah!" yelled the children, their cheers did not stop.

"Hurrah for Hurley James!" the children did sing;
"Hurrah for the ball, cake and gifts they did bring!"

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HURLEY!
LOVE,
GREAT GRANDPA AND GRANDMA STARR
