Angie Kristine Starr Gonzales was born February 24, 1976

Today we have another family February birthday, that of Angie Kristine Starr, born February 24, 1976, in Moses Lake, Washington.

 She was the last of
the children to be born to Lanny and Arlene. Her entrance into the world was
a little bumpy, but she fared the bumps quite well. We found out fairly quickly that she was allergic to cow’s milk so had to change to a soy-based formula instead, but in time she outgrew the allergy.
She was the third daughter to be born to us and having only three bedrooms, one being the master bedroom, she shared a bedroom with her brother Gary for the first couple of years, then moved into the other bedroom with her two older sisters. The three never complained too loudly about being overcrowded. In time they would reminisce about how it was good thing. I remember in several of their testimonies in church they commented favorably on having to share a bedroom with each other and the advantages they saw in it. At one time Lanny and I looked for a larger house but decided we would rather have the extra money for family vacations to Utah and camping trips.
Angie loved animals and strays were brought home for me to adopt, under protest;
however there was a cat she named Keiko which was my favorite. She had another cat she rescued, black with white markings, which she nursed back to health. She named her Jersey and she was a good cat.
Angie loved people and our backyard was usually filled with little people and her peers doing gymnastics, tumbling, balancing on the balance beam and playing games and baseball.(Lanny had built a balance beam for her to practice on.)
Angie was a crusader for the down trodden. She would protect anyone who was being bullied by someone. In high school, I got a call from her one-day saying that the school would probably be calling me to complain about her. I said, "Why?"
She said that she had told a teacher off for his rash treatment of a female student. She had told him that wasn’t how to treat or talk to a girl. He was a coach so it was probably second nature to talk in that way. I never did get the call, but I was told by some of her friends in seminary that she was being referred to as "The little Goliath."
She has had some good friends who have stood by her, throughout her childhood, teenage years, her illness, and her adult years, to which we are very grateful. She spent some time working in New Jersey and visiting sites in New York. At that time in her life she enjoyed New York City and enjoyed living back East.  She had the opportunity to attend a New Year’s celebration in Time Square with her friends.
She and her three friends traveled to England and Paris and had some interesting
experiences. Here are some pictures we have included. Notice that the twin towers
in the picture are still standing. In one of the picture in the background is the statute of liberty. Happy Birthday Sweetheart. I love you, Mom

My Daughter Angie
Angie was born on February 24th 1976 in the Moses Lake, WA hospital. I was able to witness her birth. She was a bright-eyed beautiful little baby girl. She was to be the baby of our family. Being the youngest she got spoiled a lot, even though she won’t admit it. She was always a very affectionate child and used to come and jump up in my lap at times. She was a skinny kid but she inherited my stubbornness and could hold her own with the best of them. I remember a trip we took to Seattle on a vacation with the kids. We stayed in a nice hotel in downtown Seattle that was easy walking distance to the space needle. Her favorite thing was to ride the elevator. She was a happy child who loved the outdoors. She was interested in gymnastics and I built her a balance beam in the back yard. Her younger years were full of fun and happiness. Angie started having health problems in her junior year of high school. She experienced severe headaches and joint pain. We took her to many doctors trying to help her. She was finally diagnosed as having Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. We found a doctor in Spokane, WA who finally was able to help her. Over time she was able to improve her health to the point where she took a job as a nanny. She even traveled to England and France with her friends. She finally ended up in St. Louis, MO where she met and later married Carlos Gonzalas. It was during this time that Angie started having mental problems defined as OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) which means if her imagined obsessions weren’t properly handled she experiences severe panic attacks. This illness ultimately ended her marriage. I place no blame for the divorce on either Angie or Carlos. People who don’t live with this illness can never know just how difficult and heartbreaking it is. Angie has suffered and fought through her problem and continues to do so. As her parents we have suffered also but we are very proud of her and love her very much. She will always be my little baby. Happy 36th Birthday Sis, Your dad is proud of you and loves you very much. I just wish I could do more to help you fight your illness. May God see fit to help you win this battle.
Love Dad

    1. Thanks Michael. Angie did join in with a cake celebration. She didn't blow the candles out, but let her 10-year old nephew do it. Larry, Richelle and boys joined in and made it a nice event for her. Hope you all are doing great.
