Starrs celebrate Father's Day Sunday, June 17, 2012 and Thursday, June 21, 2012

SUNDAY, JUNE 17, 2012

AN IMPORTANT DAY FOR TWO REASONS, ONE IS THAT AN APOSTLE WAS VISITING AND SPOKE AT BBCC FOR STAKE CONFERENCE AND THE OTHER WAS FATHER'S DAY. 

Larry and Richelle attended conference at the BBCC auditorium nearby. Elder Anderson from Salt Lake City was the guest speaker. I read one of his talks and learned from it. He is the newest confirmed apostle. Since this is Father's Day I thought I would include a quote Elder

Anderson made in one of his talks entitled “Children.” “I testify of the great blessing of children and of the happiness they will bring us in this life and in the eternities.” 

Those able to be here Sunday were Larry, Richelle, Gary, Hiromi, Elica, Shogo, Lanny, Angie and myself. Brent and Stefanie and family were enjoying their traditional yearly Giles' family camp out, and Philip, Alex, and Willy were with their Dad in Bothel.

Lanny has five children, 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; Larry has two children, three step children, three grandchildren; and Gary  has two children. As you can see, our family is growing, the apple tree is blossoming and great blessings are ours through these children. Happy Father's Day you three. And of course we extend a Happy Father's day to Brent who has eight children.   You are good men, good fathers, grandfathers, and good husbands. We have been blessed and are grateful for each of you.

It was a delicious celebration. Lots of fun and lots of good food. Congratulations to the chef of the day=Richelle. She assembled and barbecued fancy kabobs from tender chicken, green peppers, and onions, in addition to barbecuing steak and chicken. She also make a good potato salad, which didn't last long. Larry on the other hand was busy grinding wheat and rice twice over to produce a finer flour. Hiromi bakes bread, and was happy to be able to take a couple of large pickle bottles filled with the ground flour home with her.

Outside the wind was blowing pretty hard, even though it was a beautiful day with a blue sky, flowers in the garden, hundreds of orange easter lilies and the sun shining.  We did elect to eat inside however. 

Elica and Shogo gave me pictures of them. One was of Elica with her High School Concert Choir while in DisneyLand and one was of Shogo playing a melody on the portable organ for his school talent show. Hiromi has a tape of his song and promised to give me a copy. Elica was telling me that on the return airplane trip from California home, they had some difficulties during take-off which caused a delay. Their choir was asked to perform for the passengers. That must have been a priceless moment.

Richelle gave Larry an autographed copy of her book that was published, “Eena, The Dawn and the Rescue.” He got the 13^th copy. Lucky 13. And Gary got a very unique card from Elica, very professionally illustrated. If he would scan some of the characters, I would share them. Her lines are so strong and steady that it looks like it was made by a machine.

This evening we engaged in one of Lanny's favorite past times, Rummy. To our delight Angie was able to join us outside for a few hours, and also participated in the card game. Usually Dad, Hiromi or Richelle win. Guess who won tonight. You have two choices.  Hint: She is grinning from ear to ear, not too tall, and hates worms!  Gary, Hiromi and kids spent the night and left the next day later in the afternoon.  It was good having them spend some time with us.  Gary's work has kept him busy. THURSDAY, JUNE 21

Since Philip, Alex and William were celebrating Father's Day with their father over the weekend, Richelle planned a Father's Day dinner for Grandpa Lanny and Larry.  This evening we met at Denny's and had a good time.  The waitress was very attentive to us, good natured and a tease.  The food was good, the best chicken fried steak I have tasted.  The boys gave grandpa and Larry gifts, Lanny got a Johnny Cash-Willy Nelson DVD and a John Wayne lunch box, and Larry got a DVD of the "War Horse,"  some fishing stuff with the Green Lattern emblem on it, plus a Green Lattern ring.  You know, I am going to have to see the movie, "Green Lattern."  I think the boys were proud of their gifts and I think the fathers were pleased.
